Introduction- Who am I

My name is Rachel O'Sullivan I am 21 years old. I’m a fourth-year college student majoring in the Accounting stream of the Bachelor of Business Honors program.

The reason I chose to do this college course was because several members of my family work as accountants and I have always been interested in their work and professional accounting studies. Business was also my favourite subject in secondary school. I decided to do the business course rather than the accounting course because I wanted the chance to do a work placement, which I was able to do in my third year. Had I done the accounting course, I would not have had this chance.

I was happy to have the chance to complete the work placement because, thanks to the experience I gained during my placement in the real working environment, I was able to decide that accounting was a career I wanted to pursue in the future.

I done my work placement in EY in the PAS department. I was lucky to be kept on for the summer months so altogether I spent 8 months working there.

EY uses many different information systems in the day-to-day work, some examples of these systems are Tax Pro. Tax Pro is a comprehensive income tax compliance and management software solution. I had to input the client’s personal information into Tax Pro, the system would then create the clients income tax computation with all the tax credits/reliefs the client is entitled to based on the information that I provided to the system.

Another system I used was a Timesheet, this had to be completed daily with a breakdown of all work that I had completed that day and how long it took me to complete the work. The timesheet system would then calculate the amount of time spent on client work and would bill it directly to that client.

Using these information systems can significantly increase EY’s productivity and efficiency because it frees up employee’s time to work on other vital tasks as they don’t have to do everything once the systems have the necessary data, they take care of the rest of their own.

I hope you enjoyed my first blog, come back again next week.

Rachel 😀
